200 Proof SDA 3-C Denatured Ethanol
200 Proof ethanol denatured with isopropyl alcohol — a versatile, lower-toxicity alternative to methanol-denatured formulas. Produced and denatured on-site in Marysville, Michigan from 100% Michigan-grown corn.
What Is 200 Proof SDA 3-C?
SDA 3-C is a specially denatured alcohol formula authorized under 27 CFR Part 21: to every 100 gallons of ethanol, 5 gallons of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) are added. Because IPA is itself a common, well-understood solvent, SDA 3-C behaves predictably across a broad range of industrial applications while shipping exempt from federal excise tax.
Our 200 proof version starts from 200 proof ethanol containing less than 0.5% water, giving formulators and process engineers a dry alcohol solvent for systems where the roughly 5% water in standard 190 proof product is unacceptable.
Applications
🧷 Industrial Solvents
General-purpose low-water solvent for manufacturing, thinning, and dilution across industrial processes.
🧼 Cleaning Products
Formulated cleaners and degreasers benefiting from a lower-toxicity denaturant package.
🎨 Coatings & Adhesives
Water-free carrier for coatings, adhesives, and surface treatments sensitive to moisture.
⚗ Chemical Intermediates
Feedstock and process solvent for chemical manufacturing requiring dry, consistent alcohol.
TTB Compliance
SDA 3-C requires a TTB industrial alcohol user permit to purchase. As a TTB-permitted DSP, Pristine Alcohol handles denaturing and documentation on-site and can assist customers with their own permit applications.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is SDA 3-C denatured with?
SDA 3-C is denatured by adding 5 gallons of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) to every 100 gallons of ethanol, per the TTB formula in 27 CFR Part 21.
Why choose SDA 3-C over SDA 3-A?
SDA 3-C uses isopropyl alcohol instead of methanol as the denaturant. Many manufacturers prefer it where methanol handling, toxicity, or residue is a concern.
When do I need 200 proof instead of 190 proof SDA 3-C?
When your process is moisture-sensitive. 200 proof SDA 3-C contains less than 0.5% water, while 190 proof contains about 5% water.
Is SDA 3-C tax exempt?
Yes. As a specially denatured alcohol it is exempt from federal excise tax. A TTB industrial alcohol user permit is required to purchase.
